Die Hard (1988) is the first action movie in the Die Hard series. The film was produced by Lawrence Gordon and Charles, with Joel Silver.
It was written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza, stars Bruce Willis, Bonnie Bedelia, Alan Rickman, Paul Gleason, Alexander Godunov, Reginald VelJohnson and William Atherton, and was directed by John McTiernan. A critical and commercial success, Die Hard film career propelled Willis and established Rickman as a portraitist popular villains in the film. The film also started the series Die Hard.
The film is based Roderick Thorp on a novel titled 1979 Nothing Lasts Forever, itself a sequel to the book The Detective, which has already been done in a 1968 movie starring Frank Sinatra.
Plot
Fox Plaza in Los Angeles, portrayed in the film as "Nakatomi Plaza"
John McClane, a detective in New York City Police Department, arrived in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve, trying to reunite and reconcile with his estranged wife Holly, who is attending a Christmas party thrown by his employer fiction based in Japan, the Nakatomi Corporation at its registered branch office American skyscraper Nakatomi Plaza the 30th floor. While McClane is cooler for the flight, they see for the first time in several months and have an argument about his use of his daughter's name, Gennero, but Holly is soon called to make a speech. As the party continues, a group of 12 terrorists apparently, actually thieves, headed by Hans Gruber seize the building and engage in fire panic because they stalk the partygoers hostage. McClane has escaped from the floor (without shoes) and runs until the stairwell to check the upper floors of the building. It looks as Gruber and three henchmen question Joseph Takagi, head of Holly.
Gruber says Takagi that his intention is to steal 640 million dollars in bearer bonds kept in the vault of the building and the requirements of the access code Takagi Information system of the company is the first step in unlocking the vault. When Takagi refuses to give the code Gruber, saying that did not and that it is useless anyway Gruber, Gruber kill Takagi. McClane is upset he could not save Takagi and absconds before it is seen by one of the robbers. Karl Gruber's alleged second command, however, senses that there may be a problem.
McClane, knowing that the building's telephone lines were cut, desperately seeking a way to alert the local police. It triggers the fire alarm and fire department responds quickly. However, men Gruber cancel the alarm and tracking McClane. McClane kills Tony's brother Karl and provides two-way radios and machine guns before placing the body of Tony on a lift and send it to the 30th floor for everyone to see. McClane lies above the elevator to hear the response of thieves and try to learn more about them and their plans. Meanwhile, Karl, upset by the death of his brother and believing McClane be a serious threat, vows to get revenge against McClane, but Gruber insists he be patient while Theo, group of technical experts, breaks each of the first six locks and vault platforms explosive C4 explosives team under one roof building.
Gruber and his men listen to the radio as McClane contact the Los Angeles police, who are skeptical, partly because of the first "false fire alarm. "LAPD Sergeant Al Powell readers around the building, checks the lobby and began to chase after finding nothing abnormal. However, McClane has killed two more men Gruber and warrants the attention of Powell by removing one of the dead on patrol Powell vehicle.
