Movies mystery, suspense, film noir detective and the DVD-A GUIDE TO THE BEST IN FILM THRILLS by John Howard Reid is a dream come true for moviegoers. If your collection of films is less classic or if you want to taste the best thriller flicks of the last century then this book is the place to start.
Reid has studied examined and listed more than 700 screenings of the best examples of films that found in the DVD format. The first 218 titles included, have a Page scrutiny. It includes the full distribution and the roles played by its name. The director, screenwriter, editor, music, sound and producers are listed, and the copyright date, studio, release dates world wide travel time. Each title comes down to Mr. Reid's personal opinion and other comments. This DVD transfer rates on a scale of 1 to 10, ten being a transfer of a superb film and a being a DVD to watch. The other 500 films are briefly described.
Most titles were published in the 1930s to the 1950s with several Selections 60 and 70. You'll recognize many familiar classics such as Twelve Angry Men or a kiss before dying. However, this book really shines in its ability to reduce the exposure of obscure titles such as Attack of the Giant Leeches.
What is film noir? Reid takes a look a hundred pages in Black, crime and mystery with several hundred films mentioned. Interested in Sherlock Holmes and Raymond Chandler movies? How would you rate the Thin Man series? Mr Reid has designated an entire chapter o each of these categories. What would you guys movie hard drives? Reid takes a comprehensive study in a chapter Ladd called Bogart cons.
The amount of time and research needed to produce a book this detailed and informative is remarkable. The Hundreds of beautiful pictures in black and white add to the authenticity of the collection. Mr. Reid has over 50 years of experience in writing and it shows each page that his descriptions of good flow from one point to a common place or without crossing the plate. All film buffs should enjoy this wonderful guide. Leafing the pages that you can not help but make a list of essential before missing the local rental shop. If you liked classic thrillers Back in the day and wonder about the current availability of DVDs, you need this book. Are you tired of CGI that Hollywood is filled dribble pass for Mystery / Thriller these days so it is a must read guide to find something very different.
